How To Guide
How to Import & Export Content
Bring your characters, NPCs, stat blocks and homebrew into Convoke from other tools — and take them back out whenever you like. Import from Foundry VTT, any JSON file, screenshots, or pasted text; export to Convoke JSON, Foundry VTT, CSV, or PDF.
Who Can Import
What You Can Import
Players can import and export their own Characters.
Game Masters can also import and export these content types: Characters, NPCs, Monsters, Beasts, Spells, Items, Weapons, Armor, Equipment, Races, Subraces, Classes, Subclasses, Feats, and Proficiencies.
Characters, NPCs and items land in the campaign you imported them into; new spells, monsters, classes and the like are filed as homebrew.
Step 1
Open the Importer
Your character: open the character sheet, choose Edit, then Import Character Data.
Anything in a campaign you run: open the campaign page, expand the Game Master card, and choose Import Data.
Step 2
Pick What to Import and Where From
Select what you are importing, then choose a source:
Foundry VTT — JSON exports of actors and compendium packs.
Generic JSON — any structured JSON file; common fields are mapped automatically.
AI Vision (Images) — screenshots of your own character sheets, stat blocks, or inventory from D&D Beyond, Roll20, Foundry VTT, or similar tools. Several images showing different sections are combined.
Text Paste — paste a stat block or character sheet you have the right to use, and the AI extracts the data.
Step 3
Review, Then Confirm
Upload your file, images, or text. Convoke reads it, then shows Review Changes — check what it found (with several records you can untick the ones you don’t want; when updating an existing character you can untick individual changes). Continue to Confirm Import and choose Import. When you see Import Complete, your content is ready — fix anything the import misread in the normal editor.
Stat Blocks
Quick Stat Blocks for NPCs
In any NPC editor, Import stat block fills in a full 5e stat block from one of three tabs:
Bestiary — search the built-in monster list (SRD 5.1 plus licensed third-party sources, each under its own licence).
My NPCs — copy the stat block from another NPC you own.
Paste / image — paste a stat block or add a screenshot and the AI reads it.
Mid-session, Begin Combat can also attach a stat block to a combatant — from the campaign’s NPCs, a bestiary search, or the Import wizard above.
Export
Export Your Content
Choose Export Character Data from a character’s Edit menu, or Export Data on a campaign’s Game Master card, then pick a format:
Convoke JSON — the native format, re-importable into Convoke.
Foundry VTT — Foundry-compatible actor and item JSON.
CSV Spreadsheet — for spreadsheet apps.
PDF Document — a styled character sheet or stat block, ready to print or share.
Good to Know
Before You Import
Use content you have the right to use: your own homebrew and characters, SRD entries, or exports from another tool.
Monsters and Beasts are shared: every Convoke user can find them in the bestiary. To keep a creature to your campaign, import it as an NPC instead.
Foundry VTT files cover most content types; races, subraces, and proficiencies come in through Generic JSON, screenshots, or pasted text instead.
AI reads can miss things — especially from blurry or partial screenshots. Clear, complete images and the Review step catch most issues.
