Licences & Attribution
Last updated: 8 September 2026
Convoke publishes game content under several different licences, and this page carries the notices each of them requires. It also tells you how to send us a copyright complaint. Convoke supports play under the fifth-edition 2014 rules.
System Reference Document 5.1
This work includes material taken from the System Reference Document 5.1 ("SRD 5.1") by Wizards of the Coast LLC and available at https://dnd.wizards.com/resources/systems-reference-document. The SRD 5.1 is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License available at https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/legalcode.
Modified by Convoke: reformatted, and some names changed.
Rules presentations prepared by Convoke
Game rules and mechanics are not protected by copyright — United States law excludes any “idea, procedure, process, system, method of operation” from copyright protection, however it is described or explained (17 U.S.C. §102(b)). Numbers, dice, difficulty classes, ranges, durations, conditions, damage types and saving throws are therefore free to state.
Some fifth-edition 2014-rules content on Convoke is not in the SRD 5.1. We are replacing those descriptions with presentations prepared by Convoke, with machine assistance, that state only the mechanics — numbers, dice, difficulty classes, ranges, durations, conditions and saving throws. That work is in progress. Convoke claims no copyright in the machine-prepared text, and where a description has not yet been replaced we will remove it on request: dmca@convokerpg.com.
Open Game Content
Part of the Convoke bestiary and Compendium is third-party Open Game Content, reproduced under the Open Game License v1.0a. The full licence text follows, and a plain-text copy is available at /licenses/OGL-1.0a.txt. Every response from the Convoke bestiary API points here with a Link: </licenses>; rel="license" header. When the Compendium library files are published, the licence text will travel inside each of them.
Designation of Open Game Content
All stat blocks and game mechanics Convoke reproduces from the following documents — Tome of Beasts, Creature Codex, Tome of Beasts 2, Level Up Advanced 5e Monstrous Menagerie, Tome of Beasts 3, Critical Role: Tal’Dorei Campaign Setting and Tome of Beasts 2023 — as served by the Convoke bestiary API and by the Convoke Compendium, are designated as Open Game Content.
Product Identity: The Convoke name, the Convoke logo, all Convoke artwork, the Convoke interface and all original Convoke prose other than the machine-prepared rules presentations described above — in which Convoke claims no copyright — are Product Identity and are not Open Game Content. No portion of this work may be reproduced in any form without permission except the Open Game Content designated above, the SRD 5.1 material reproduced under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License, and the machine-prepared rules presentations.

Copyright notices and takedown
Convoke hosts content its users create and upload. If you own a copyright and believe material on Convoke infringes it, tell us and we will act on it. Our designated agent for receiving notices of claimed infringement under 17 U.S.C. §512(c) is:
Copyright Agent
Formation Interactive LLC
8 The Green STE B
Dover, DE 19901, USA
dmca@convokerpg.com
The quickest route is the takedown notice form, which collects everything below in one step. You may also email the agent directly.
What a notice must contain
To be effective under 17 U.S.C. §512(c)(3)(A), a notice must be a written communication that includes substantially all of the following:
- a physical or electronic signature of a person authorised to act on behalf of the owner of an exclusive right that is allegedly infringed;
- identification of the copyrighted work claimed to have been infringed — or, if several works at one site are covered by a single notice, a representative list of them;
- identification of the material that is claimed to be infringing and that is to be removed, with information reasonably sufficient to let us locate it (a Convoke URL is best);
- information reasonably sufficient to let us contact you: your address, telephone number and, if available, an email address;
- a statement that you have a good-faith belief that the use complained of is not authorised by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law;
- a statement that the information in the notice is accurate, and — under penalty of perjury — that you are authorised to act on behalf of the owner of the right allegedly infringed.
Please send notices in good faith. Under 17 U.S.C. §512(f) a person who knowingly misrepresents that material is infringing may be liable for damages.
Counter-notice
If we remove or disable access to your material, we will make a reasonable effort to tell you and to pass on the notice we received. You may send a counter-notice to dmca@convokerpg.com containing your signature; identification of the material and the location it appeared at before removal; a statement under penalty of perjury that you have a good-faith belief it was removed as a result of mistake or misidentification; and your name, address and telephone number, together with consent to the jurisdiction of the federal district court for the district in which you live (or, if you are outside the United States, the District of Delaware) and to accept service of process from the person who sent the original notice.
We will forward a valid counter-notice to the complainant. Unless they tell us they have filed a court action seeking to restrain you, we may restore the material in 10 to 14 business days.
Repeat infringers
Convoke keeps a record of copyright complaints upheld against an account and, in appropriate circumstances, terminates the accounts of users who repeatedly infringe. A counter-notice that stands, or a notice we determine to be invalid, does not count against an account.
